How to read these numbers: store vs online, penetration, catchments
- Store sales
- Purchases made in a store, tagged to that store and to the customer's home postcode (loyalty card or e-receipt).
- Online sales
- Website orders, placed by delivery postcode. They don't belong to a store, but in store views they count towards the nearest store's catchment, to show the online demand around it.
- All sales
- Store + online together. The Sales channel switch changes every number, chart and map on this page: pick Store or Online and only that channel's sales are shown.
- Penetration
- Customers ÷ households in the area. 2% means 2 in every 100 households bought at least once in the time frame.
- Core & growth audience
- Core = the household groups that make up 80% of sales, best-indexing first (see the Pareto box). Growth = the next best-indexing large groups (2.5%+ of households) outside the core: the most scalable pool to grow into.
- Catchment & sectors served
- Each postcode sector goes to its nearest store. That store's catchment is those sectors; sectors served is how many. Sectors far from any store are “Online”.
